Jin Shangyi, born in 1934 in Jiaozuo, Henan Province, is also a famous painter. He graduated from the painting department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1953, and in 1957 he completed the training course of the academy’s Soviet expert Markmov’s oil painting. He served as chairman of the Chinese Artists Association and vice chairman of the Chinese Oil Painting Society. In the early years, he mainly engaged in revolutionary historical themes of oil painting, including representative works such as “December Meeting”. However, in the early 1980s, he began to absorb European classical painting styles and began to create portraits of modern Chinese figures. This body work was created by Jin Shangyi after his investigation in Yongle Palace and Dunhuang. The plane decoration effect of ancient fresco had a certain influence on his creation. He skillfully handled the light so that the human body stood out clearly against a dark background. The surface of the picture is flat, but the figure is full and full.
